How to measure ring size in cm — place an existing ring on a ruler and measure inner diameter

Three ways to measure

Ruler + existing ring

  1. Find a ring that fits the right finger.
  2. Lay it flat on a ruler.
  3. Measure the inner diameter in mm — straight across the inside.
  4. Match to the Diameter mm column below.

Paper strip method

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper (5mm wide).
  2. Wrap it snugly around your finger at the knuckle.
  3. Mark where it overlaps.
  4. Measure the length to the mark in mm — that's your Circumference.

A few tips before you measure

  • Measure when your hands are warm and at room temperature — fingers shrink in the cold.
  • Measure the same finger you'll wear the ring on (left and right differ).
  • If you're between sizes, go up — easier to resize down than up.
  • For wide bands (5mm+), go up half a size for comfort.
  • Knuckle wider than the base of your finger? Measure the knuckle.
